We recently read the results of a survey put out by EdTech Evolved, which gathered insights from 600 teachers. The section on teacher motivations and priorities for EdTech adoption was particularly compelling. Here's what we found:

Key Findings on Teacher Motivations for EdTech Adoption
  • 73% of teachers try new digital tools to bring fresh content to students
  • 41% cite curriculum gaps as a motivator for new tool adoption
  • 62% prioritize student engagement when choosing programs
  • 20.4% focus on student learning outcomes
Reasons for Discontinuing EdTech Tools
  • 31% stop using tools when free trials expire
  • 19% discontinue if tools are difficult for students to use
  • 13% stop if students dislike the tool
  • 14% cease usage if they don't see results
Analysis

The data reveals a strong emphasis on student engagement, possibly due to post-pandemic challenges in reaching students. The lower priority on learning outcomes raises questions about teachers' roles in efficacy analysis. The high impact of trial expirations suggests a gap between teacher interest and willingness or ability to pay for tools. Student feedback significantly influences tool retention, while some teachers face restrictions from school or district mandates.
