3 Seconds to Grab Your Attention

Thank you for opening my email.

Your email subject line has just 3 seconds to grab attention in a crowded inbox. Here's how to make them count:

  • Front-load with value - Put the most important words first. Readers scan from left to right, so don't bury the lead.
  • Use numbers and specifics - "5 Quick Steps" is more compelling than "How to." Be concrete, not vague.
  • Create urgency naturally - Instead of false urgency ("OPEN NOW!"), highlight genuine time-sensitivity ("Today's Strategy Meeting Notes").

Pro Tip: Before hitting send, ask yourself: "Would I open this if I received it?" If the answer isn't an immediate yes, revise until it is.

Action Step: Review your last 5 sent emails. Rewrite their subject lines using these principles. Notice how much stronger they become.
